Livina Press publishes four times a year. Each issue is published within a month of submissions closing (i.e. if submissions are open from March 1 - March 30, then the issue will be published in April).

Every issue is published through Amazon KDP for print copies, and PDFs are available through the website for a nominal price.

There is no fee to submit to regular Livina Press issues, or themed issues, or Midnight Ink. If there is ever a fee associated with a submission (like contests) it will be clearly stated.

You can submit poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction in every regular issue.

Livina Press does not accept photography, artwork, comics, scripts, or screen plays, or novel manuscripts (as the max word count is 5,000 words unless stated otherwise for that submission period).

Livina Press will also not accept work that promotes or glorifies suicide, drug use, or contains excessive and unnecessary depictions of violence or gore.

If your work contains references or implications of suicide, self-harm, or physical or sexual assault of any kind (even if not detailed), please include a warning at the beginning of your submission.

3 out of 4 issues every year are labeled as “no theme.” This only means that there is not a specific theme that needs to be considered when submitting. For example, if there is a call for submissions with “no theme” you can still submit a spooky/ghost story. However, if there is a theme (like “Golden” for a previous issue), your submission would have to follow the theme requirements.

So, anything can go for a “no theme” submission call!

No, Livina Press does not accept unsolicited manuscripts for novels.

Not a problem! Just follow up you original submission email with the correct version of your work. That will be the only work considered!

You can withdraw your work for any reason, just please follow up your original submission email notifying the editor of your wish to withdraw (no reason needs to be given if you do not want to!).

Just please try to refrain from sending a separate email notifying of your request to withdraw. Livina Press gets a lot of submissions, and it’s easier to locate work if the request is a follow up to the original submission email.

Livina Press asks for first serial rights and archival rights. Rights convert back to the author after publication.

In the future, if a piece that was first accepted and published through Livina Press is accepted elsewhere, I would ask that you please acknowledge Livina Press in the publication.

Yes! If a piece that was first accepted and published through Livina Press is accepted elsewhere, it can be republished as long as proper credit is given to Livina Press as the original publisher.

Unfortunately, Livina Press is unable to offer payment to the contributors at this time. This is something that I am working to change, but seeing as this is a one-person gig and I am constantly trying to balance running LP and a full-time job, it’s been difficult. However, Livina Press does provide a full PDF copy to every contributor when it is finished!

Unfortunately, Livina Press is unable to offer free physical copies, but every contributor gets a full PDF of the issue as soon as it is ready!

Yes! You can share your work in whole or in part if it has been published with Livina Press, I just ask that you credit Livina Press with the publication if you do so.

Anyone can submit! Livina Press does not have any rules/requirements regarding who can submit. As long as your submission follows the guidelines.

Yes! You can submit to the regular Livina Press issues that are published 4 times a year, as well as Midnight Ink which will be published every year in October.

Nope! There is no rule on when you can resubmit to Livina Press. This may change in the future, but as of right now, you can submit to every issue even if you were published in the previous one!

Yes! Livina Press accepts previously published works as long as the author retains the necessary rights and the previous publisher allows it (we want to make sure they’re credited appropriately).

Livina Press publishes 1 themed issue a year. An announcement for the theme will be made about ~1 month prior to submissions opening. The information for the themed issue can be found on our submission guidelines page here once it has been announced.

The special issues published by Livina Press are usually focused on a specific theme, and all proceeds are donated.

Previous special issues have been:

• “Fight for Reproductive Rights” with all proceeds going to the Center for Reproductive Rights.

• “Womanhood” with all proceeds going to Women for Women International.

• “Homeland” with all proceeds going to The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees.

Once submissions close, the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) goes through all of the submissions. Any submission that doesn’t follow the guidelines is moved to ‘rejected’ and no response is given.

Then, each category is reviewed. It’s usually poetry, then fiction, then creative non-fiction. Poetry is usually the biggest category for submissions, so it’s reviewed first. The EIC makes notes during the review as she goes. Depending on the amount of submissions, this process can take a week or two.

Once every submission has been viewed, the decision process begins. All responses are sent once a decision has been made for each submitted work. Sending out responses can take multiple days depending on the number of submissions.
